I hope you have enjoyed the Microphone Characteristics articles up to now! I know some of them might have been a bit detailed and long, but today we are going to have a short and quick one!
What does Top/Side Address means?
Essentially we are talking about 2 setups here, which define how the microphone capsule is placed within the enclosure.
Top Address means that the capsule is at the top end of the microphone, pointing up. These microphones need to have their top side pointing towards the source when positioned.
Side Address means that the capsule is again (usually) near the top end of the microphone, but this time points to the side. Meaning that the microphone needs to be placed on a vertical position pointing towards the source for optimal results.
